He comes out and quotes it
Stump pricing depends on what is actually in the ground — the diameter at its widest point, how far the roots run, how much of the stump is above grade, and whether the machine can get to it. That is why the quote is free and on site.

The utilities get marked before anything spins
A grinder cuts below grade, so buried gas, water, electric and fibre have to be located first. Carson makes that call — you do not have to.

You know the price before the work starts
$150 minimum, then $5 per inch of stump diameter. More than one stump on the same property usually brings the per-inch price down. Nothing starts until you have agreed the number.

He grinds it out and rakes up
The stump goes below grade, the chips get raked back into the hole, and the yard is left tidy. If you want the chips hauled away instead, say so when he quotes it.
